My bike has always had silver bar tape until the last time I had the bars retaped. Speedo taped them for me, and he used black tape. I really liked the black look, but I found silver bar tape on sale on the interwebs somewhere and have had it in my closet for 4 or 5 months. More specifically, this silver tape is a little unusual because it has a "woven carbon fiber" pattern.
This week, while having some maintenance and repairs done on my bike, I had the mechanic retape the bars. When I went to pick it up, I wasn't sure that I liked the tape, but what do I know? I'll put it up to a vote of my 7 or so readers. Post a comment, and let me know what you think.
Here's a close up, and another photo a little further away. My apologies for the camera phone image, and for the poor lighting in my hotel efficiency kitchenette.

It kind of looks like the bar tape I had on my Schwinn in the 70s. Not sure if I like it or not because I've erased all of the 70s memories that I possibly could.
i actually like it man!! ohh and btw .. i turned on the site feed on my site.. hehe thats prolly why it wouldnt detect.. seriously.. honestly i like it.. looks good imo
Based on what I can see of the rest of your bike, i think it looks good. It looks like the paint on your top tube fades from silver to dark grey The silver bar tape goes good with the silver on the top tube.

I like it, but I like flashy! :)
I like it, looks kind of like snakeskin and anything in snakeskin is cool.
It looks more gray than silver in the photo, so I'm not sure that the color actually matches, would be easier to tell if I could see the whole bike. The carbon look is cool though.
I agree with Mike, it looks like tape from a vintage bike. I remember my dad's Schwinn having white tape with a texture that sort of looked like that in the 80's.
The really important question: is it comfortable? If your hands and wrists feel beat up at the end of a 2 hour ride, then it doesn't matter what it looks like.
But then again, I wear jeans, a hoody, and running shoes to work (the perks of being at a software company), so what do I know about style?
Thanks for all the good feedback. After a couple of rides, I think I like the tape. That includes both the looks and the comfort level!
